Pride Cheerleading Association (PCA) has been driven since 2004 towards “Charitable Cheerleading” in which its member teams from all over North America support PCA’s philanthropic mission “to support people living with life-challenging conditions in the LGBTQ community and beyond.”
This effort has been led by Sara Toogood who has worked hard to elevate PCA to “unite, support, and develop” their member teams. Over the past five years, PCA has seen an exponential growth in its membership teams with squads now present in many major cities throughout the United States. The membership teams which include CHEER San Francisco, Cheer Los Angeles, Cheer New York, Chicago Spirit Brigade, Cheer Salt Lake, CHEER Seattle, Cheer DC, Capital Cheer Elite Storm, CHEER Tacoma, CHEER Colorado, Cheer Austin, Cheer PDX, and Cheer Philadelphia are all active participants within their own regional communities as well as at various national and international LGBTQI sports events, including Gay Games and the Sin City Classic. In addition to the fabulous routines and amazing spirit, the PCA cheerleaders are often seen carrying buckets to collect donations from their audience to support a local LGBTQI charity in their city.
Sara Toogood has been an influential leader in this expansion of PCA to support new teams and expanding PCA’s charitable cheerleading. To date, PCA teams have raised thousands of dollars for dozens of charities all over the USA. The Stevie Awards are billed as “the world’s premier business awards” and recognizes “achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals worldwide.” The Stevie Awards presents awards in various categories related to business, most notably the Women in Business category “recognize the achievements of women executives, entrepreneurs, and the organizations they run.”
Sara Toogood was nominated for this award and attended the 2019 ceremony in New York City to recognize her hard work and commitment to the mission of PCA. She came home with the Bronze Award for “Female Innovator of the Year- Non-Profit” and was delighted at the honor. Her hard work has certainly made a positive contribution to the lives and communities of all the PCA member teams and her legacy continues to shine with every cent raised in the name of charitable cheerleading. Congratulations Sara!
