Every year, Team New York Aquatics, invites swimmers from New York City and all over the US to “Live the Swimmers Life” for 6 days under the California sun! The camp is scheduled to be held March 24th through the 30th at the Palm Springs Aquatic Center. The training camp will include one practice on Sunday, the 24th and “Two A Day” practices on Monday thru 25th through Friday the 29th with one practice in the morning and the second in the evening. The event concludes with a final practice and social event on Saturday the 30th.
The annual camp is usually held in Florida at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, but due to renovations of the pool. TNYA is taking the camp to beautiful Palm Springs!
Most importantly, the training camp is open to swimmers of all levels and abilities. The focus of the camp is on team building, friendship and fun (not a Grindr profile, I swear). There will be swim lanes in each practice to accommodate swimmers of all speeds and intensities. There will be practices to train for competitive swimming, practices to build stroke technique and lanes for the foundational basics. The swim camp emphasizes putting in your best effort, taking part and having fun!
In addition to the swimming, there will be plenty of time and opportunities for sight-seeing, napping, hanging out with friends and enjoying the beauty of SoCal! In addition, TNYA is planning a variety of social events and gatherings off the pool deck for the swimmers to have fun and socialize. It is always a fun week and a great “swim-cation” for everybody who takes part.
The Swim Camp is open to all swimmers, even swimmers who are not part of TNYA. Previous camps have hosted swimmers from DC Aquatic Club and other swimmers from IGLA (International LGBTQ Aquatics) teams.
Speaking of which, the training camp is an excellent way to train and prepare for the 2019 International LGBTQ (IGLA) Championships. Also, being hosted by TNYA in New York City. The 2019 IGLA Championships will include a week of swimming, open water, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming. Concluding with the famous “Pink Flamingo” event which combines elements of synchronized swimming into a fabulously campy drag show.
The 2019 IGLA Championships will be the 31st anniversary of International LGBTQ Aquatics and hosted in conjunction with Stonewall 50 which the 2019 World Pride will be hosting in New York City to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. IGLA will be held June 23rd through June 29th and concludes on June 30th as part of the Pride Parade and March for Stonewall 50.
