Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom, thank you for joining us for this chat! We are excited to share more about your work with Intent Beverage and the LGBTQIA+ sports communities to help us learn about your work and share what Intent Beverage is all about.

DS: So, what exactly is “Intent Beverage”?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Intent Drinks keep you in sync with your body, your Circadian Rhythm, giving your body what it needs, when it needs it, morning, afternoon and night. They help you rise with energy, clarity, have endurance and focus through the day, then rest and restore at night. That’s why we have 3 formulations- Get Up. Stand Up. in Lingonberry/Acai for morning, Break Free with a Cucumber/Jasmine flavor, and Night Shift in Vanilla Chamomile. Smooth, subtle, refreshing drinks designed to complement your day, helping you activate and achieve your intentions. All are clean, certified organic, super refreshing, and combine healthy benefits of honey and plant-based adaptogens to help us ignite our potential and fulfill the greatest of our intentions, sunrise to sunset. Each is beneficial on its own, but they are more powerful together. People often ask if you can drink them at different times of the day and more than one. The answer is, “Yes!” You can enjoy them at whatever time of day you want the healthy benefits and great taste Intent Circadian beverages provides, and you can enjoy as many as you desire- they are clean, healthy and refreshing drinks that keep you in sync.

DS: How did Intent Beverage come about? Can you tell us more about your inspiration and history of the company?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Like many entrepreneurs, I had a problem and created a solution. As an eye doctor for over 20 years, I was focused more on the health of my patients than my own health. I was a regular at a fast-food burger joint and can’t stand drinking plain water. When I made the decision to start a healthy meal delivery service to keep me away from impulse eating, a new healthy eating routine emerged. But I literally had a headache every night. Not good. I wouldn’t drink water without the crazy color powder “cancer sticks” as my husband calls them and was dehydrated daily. Being from Pittsburgh, I’m a short and to the point kind of person. Plain water wasn’t enough of a reason- so I set out to create healthy drinks with a purpose, designed to give the body what it needs, when it needs it, morning, noon and night. My husband, Tom, and our brother, Nic, began a collaborative journey to make a trio of refreshing organic drinks designed to keep you in sync with your natural Circadian Rhythm. We all rise, thrive, need to rest, and recover, and have incredible potential to achieve the things we set out to do.

The inspiration? We all share the same sunrise and sunset- no matter where we live, what we look like, what we believe, who we love, that rhythm is something we all share. That desire to ignite the incredible potential we have in each and every one of us, that fuels the engine of goodwill, that’s what drives Intent.

DS: It was mentioned that you have a “special connection” with the LGBTQIA+ community, can you share more about that? It’s the us.

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Both of our brothers are gay, Nic Yavelak is an Intent Co-Founder, many of our friends and family members are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, which is why we actually did our flavor and label design sample testing at a Phoenix Pride Rainbow festival. For us, the LGBTQIA+ community isn’t the afterthought, it is the thought.  This is who we are- our friends, family, and our daughter. Raising an LGBTQIA+ kid magnifies the importance of accepting and celebrating people and creating a community where we can all shine. We began at a Pride event, the LGBTQIA+ community created the Intent morning, noon and night drinks you see today.

DS: Intent Beverage sponsors several LGBTQIA+ sports events, can you share with us what events these are? How did you get involved with these organizations?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Sports for me growing up was the space and opportunity to make lifelong friendships and create that supportive safety net of people around us. When our state of Arizona brought up a bill to ban transgender athletes from participating aligned with their gender identity, testifying as a proud and supportive parent, and connecting with sports LGBTQIA+ advocacy groups and journalists became a focus and priority. That experience as a mom, an ally, sister, and friend highlighted how important it is to get off the sidelines, align with people who share our values and commitments to the LGBTQIA+ community, and act. It’s amazing when your purpose and passion align, that positive energy attracts people who share value and purpose. That’s how we met Trayer Martinez at Compete, and many more friends and allies.  Through efforts to engage with sports organizations committed to inclusion, equity, diversity, and representation, we connected with and joined the Compete Sports Diversity Council. This year, Intent has sponsored the Pride USA Great State Classic, The Compete Sports Diversity Council Summit, Pride Bowl Chicago, and we’re supporting Mike Shoreman, “the unbalanced paddle boarder” in “The Crossing” event to raise funds for mental health, which is vitally important to our community. Intent is working with CSDC to support the Lynn Lewis Foundation Miami Tournament, Pride Run, Asana, and many more! Our commitment to support LGBTQIA+ athletes, organizations and events will continue to grow as we do because sports play such an incredible role in building inclusive communities and awesome friendships. Through sports, we can truly make a difference in our communities, and that’s what drives Intent.

DS: Your website mentions that a portion of the proceeds support equity and inclusion, can you expand on that and tell us more about what that means?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Before our first case was even produced, we set up the Intent Foundation, a 501c3 so that we can better support organizations helping the LGBTQIA+ community, especially our youth. To celebrate Pride month, we are donating 5% to One-n-Ten, a nonprofit charitable organization serving LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults. In addition, we’re committed to donating a portion of proceeds from every bottle sold to organizations working to improve Equity and Inclusion, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, like One-n-Ten, The Trevor Project, and Athlete Ally, to name a few. Although we are in our early stages as a company, we’ve laid the foundation to give back from the beginning.

DS: What are Intent Beverage’s plans for expansion, where would you like to see the brand grow in the next few years?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: Intent drinks keep you in sync with your body, Circadian Rhythm, the world around us. Purpose driven products combined with purpose driven people tend to break boundaries!  In addition to Intent being available locally at AJ’s Fine Foods in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tucson, Intent is available in the U.S. online at, and we are expanding online into Canada in August! I’d like us to grow in the spaces where we live, work and play. Fitness studios and gyms, corporate cafeterias, health and wellness centers, hotels, meal delivery companies, grocery stores, restaurants, and bars, wherever it’s easiest for people to enjoy.  The best way to find us easier is to simply ask for the places you go for drinks to carry Intent!

We’re growing within the LGBTQIA+ community and among athletes all over the country- it’s the people who experience Intent and share it that really make the brand. I’m excited to see Intent become everything it’s meant to be and make a positive impact in people’s lives. It’s an incredible journey that’s just beginning.

DS: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Dr. Amy and Dr. Tom Czyz: We have some fabulous drinks in the making to be released in the next few months, so stay tuned! We love hearing from you, so follow and tag us at @haveintent, and share your unapologetically inspired stories! It’s the people we meet every day that humble and inspire us. Thank you for reaching out to us and for all the hard work you do to make building our communities through sports stronger every day.
