Luxembourg has joined the progressive EU ranks of countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, France and even the United Kingdom as one of the countries where same-sex couples can be legally married in the same fashion and reaping the same benefits as heterosexual couples.

The decision comes on the heels of 56-4 vote from the Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg’s only political chamber) making the measure nearly unanimous.

Luxembourg also has an openly gay prime minister, Xavier Bettel, who uproariously cheered the new law when notified of it’s passing.

Also of note is the ill-fated opposition group “Protector of the Child,” which attempted to garner votes but quite obviously failed, and in spectacular fashion.
