The inaugural World Gay Basketball Championship Tournament will be held May 24-29, 2020 at the DS Sports Plex in Deerfield Beach, Florida north of Fort Lauderdale.

Longtime gay basketball player and organizer Mark Chambers is organizing the event with the backing of the National Gay Basketball Association.

“This will be the first time LGBTQ+ players from across the globe will meet in competition outside the Gay Games,” Chambers said. “Initially we will hold the event every four years in the even-number years between the Gay Games. This will give us a global championship every two years.”

Teams and individuals can register regardless of gender in these divisions:

  • Open A
  • Open B+
  • Competitive B
  • Competitive B-
  • Recreational C
  • Recreational D
  • 40+ Masters
  • 50+ Seniors

Anyone who identifies as female can register in the Women’s Tournament. Actual competition brackets will depend on registrations.

Chambers said the women divisions may be trimmed back to 3 division if registration warrants.

Online early registration runs June 1-October 31 with a player fee of $100. Regular registration runs  November 1-January 31 with a player fee of $125. Details of late registration are to be determined. Team captains can pre-register teams for $50 during June.
