The 38th running of the Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run is set to take place on Saturday, June 29th. Billed as the “First official event of the 2019 LGBT Pride Weekend, part of the historic celebrations of WorldPride NYC and Stonewall 50.” The annual event is organized to raise money for LGBT related and NY based charity organizations with over $150,000 raised in the history. This year’s beneficiary is the NYC LGBT Community Center which “empowers people to lead healthy, successful lives. The Center celebrates diversity and advocates for justice and opportunity.”
Front Runners New York are expecting a record breaking year for attendance and participation in the Pride Run with over 6,000 athletes registered.. With registrations already sold out, they have invited Guinness World Records to measure the size of the event in order to qualify for an official world record of having over 6000 finishers complete the run.
With WorldPride and Stonewall 50 celebrations taking place all throughout the month of June in NYC. The “Official” pride weekend doesn’t start until June 29th and culminating in the World Pride Parade and March on Sunday, June 30th. The march is expected to be the world’s largest pride parade/ march in the history of the movement.
For runners who are not able to travel to NYC for World Pride, the Front Runners have partnered with the New York Road Runners to launch the first ever Virtual Pride Run 5k for people to participate between June 22nd and June 30th.
The New York City Front Runners is one of the first LGBTQI running clubs and has been active since 1979 and with over 700 members, their goal is “to provide encouragement and support to LGBT adults and their supporters who are interested in running and running related activities.”
