St. Louis Cardinals’ “Breachgate”

In what looks like baseball’s version of football’s “deflategate,” the St. Louis Cardinals have been accused of hacking the Houston Astros computer network. It appears the Cards had access to the Astros’ proprietary information as early as 2012 although The Chronicle has only confirmed one breach in 2013 and a second one in March 2014 that triggered an FBI investigation.

Following the tacit admission by Cards owner Bill DeWitt Jr. and MLB calling it an “illegal breach” rather than an “alleged illegal breach,” new MLB commissioner Rob Manfred will be deciding what type of punishment will be imposed on the team beyond any potential government criminal charges. DeWitt said he was shocked by the scandal and blamed it on “roguish behavior.” However, Manfred doesn’t have absolute control – MLB’s league constitution and collective bargaining agreement both have the power to limit his ability to punish the Cards.

Pro Wrestler Money Matt Cage Comes Out

Cage, whose legal name is Matt Hullum, is an independent in wrestling’s alternative leagues. He writes on his Facebook page: “For the longest time, I claimed that I was bisexual. When I privately came out to people that already know, I told them that this was the case. And it was. However, I have no real intentions of pursuing females at this stage of my life. I still find beautiful women beautiful. I don’t think that’ll ever change. But I think that to continue to claim something that’s not true is just continuing a streak of dishonesty and I don’t want that. Sorry, ladies. I’m officially pulling myself off of the market. Don’t hate me too bad.”

Confederate Flag Decision Can Impact Redskins Lawsuit

The Supreme Court’s recent decision Texas is not required to issue license plate’s featuring the Confederate Flag may help decide the team’s on-going lawsuit to prevent the removal of the NFL’s Redskins trademark registration because of the team’s offensive name. In 2014 the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board declared the team’s trademark registration should be revoked on the grounds that it may be offensive to Native Americans. This week U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee, who is presiding over the case, asked lawyers at the start of the hearing to focus on how the Texas case affects the Redskins’ situation.
