In case you missed it, Season 26 of ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” is set to debut this week! This season’s cast however, is all about the athletes and with DWTS featuring athletes in the past with great success (ratings) it was inevitable that they would eventually feature a full cast of athletes. The full cast of athletes includes Josh Norman, Arike Ogunbowale, Chris Mazdzer, Johnny Damon, Mirai Nagasu, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Adam Rippon, Jamie Anderson, Jennie Finch, and Tonya Harding.

With such a large diversity in the cast, and I am not just talking about the athletes themselves but also the sports they represent. It will be quite interesting to see what’ll happen this season. If you know your athletes, you’ll notice however, that Figure Skating is the most represented sport with Tonya Harding, Mirai Nagasu and Adam Rippon representing. While not surprising, the sport of figure skating requires the use of music during the artistic and often dance like routines. Other sports represented including Baseball, American Football, Basketball, Luge, Snowboard and Softball.

Figure Skaters and Ice Dancers on Dancing with the Stars have proven to be quite strong competitors, starting way back in Season 6 when Kristi Yamaguchi took home the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. The trend continued when Evan Lysacek placed 2nd in Season 10, Charlie White 5th place in season 18 who was beat by Meryl Davis who not only took 1st place, but currently holds the record for the highest score on DWTS history and Nancy Kerrigan who placed 7th just 2 seasons prior. (Dorothy Hamill competed in season 16 but had to pull out due to injury.)

So, with such a good record for Figure Skaters and Ice Dancers in DWTS history, they are sure going to the ones to watch out for this season!
