Tennis takes top spot this week in review with retired pro James Blake being misidentified by undercover NYPD officers and Serena Williams lost her Grand Slam bid. But there are also two rugby stories while Tim Tebow and Rhonda Rousey fans will get some space. There’s even a video of the Kansas State marching band’s “space” themed field formation. Enjoy!
Retired tennis star James Blake wrongly tackled by NYPD
New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton apologized to retired tennis star James Blake after the former tennis star was thrown to the ground, handcuffed and detained by undercover NYPD officers on Wednesday in a case of mistaken identity. Bratton denied race played a factor. James Blake and the actual suspect are both African-American. Read the full story here:
Serena Williams loses Grand Slam bid to Italy’s Roberta Vinci
In what still seems to be impossible, Serena Williams lost to Roberta Vinci of Italy during the semifinal match of the U.S. Open in a stunning upset – 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Vinci was unseeded and had never made it past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, but Williams’ response about Vinci was that, “She played literally out of her mind.” Read the full story here:
Philadelphia Eagles dump Tim Tebow
According to NewNowNext, Tim Tebow has been cut from the Philadelphia Eagles, which to me says that they just weren’t getting the free press that they hoped for from him. But according to coach Chip Kelly, he just wasn’t good enough to be a third stringer. “We felt Tim has progressed, but we didn’t feel he was good enough to be the (No.) 3 right now.” Insult to injury, they don’t have a third stringer at the moment, which means Tebow wasn’t better than an empty space on the bench Read the full story here: http://www.newnownext.com/chris-evans-is-down-to-play-captain-america-forever-damon-wayans-is-a-bill-cosby-supporter-tom-hardy-didnt-think-about-krays-sexuality-meme/09/2015/

Newly out rugby pro’s wife wasn’t thrilled to learn he’s gay
Keegan Hirst’s wife says that she absolutely supports her husband coming out although she didn’t feel that way initially. “At one point I wanted to rip his head off and kill him.” She was at her worst when he actually started talking about it publicly because he told her he wouldn’t. Still, she’s coming around. “I can see now I’ve got two beautiful kids from our relationship and they will grow up to know I don’t regret them and I wouldn’t change them for the world. I’m still not 100 percent and I’m not gonna’ sit here and pretend I am. I’ve been in a dark horrible place, but now I’m coming through the other side. I’m able to say now ‘yeah, this is my husband’. I’m proud of him and I can support him.” Read the full story here:
Kansas State marching band has a unique team spirit
The marching band for Kansas State has apologized for a field formation during the game this last weekend that appeared to have their arch rival the University of Kansas’ mascot, the Jayhawk deep-throating a penis. The band director says it’s a misinterpretation. With the show’s space theme, it was meant to be a Jayhawk battling the USS Enterprise. According to JoeMyGod, “The film celebrates the courage of Gareth, and most importantly, the empathy shown by his teammates when he came out, showing that even when he felt he was on his own and at his lowest point, he was always part of a team.” Watch the video here: http://www.joemygod.com/2015/09/07/gareth-thomas-never-alone/
