The big story this week is Manny Pacquiao’s homophobic remarks about same-sex marriage comparing gays to animals and the furor it’s raised, from athletes like Jason Collins, Magic Johnson, and Orlando Cruz and his former sponsors like Nike, Foot Locker.

For young sports fans, the lazy, hazy days of summer baseball hold no interest for them and MLB is pulling out all the stops to try to attract them. Darren Sharper’s plea rejected by federal judge
Former NFL safety Darren Sharper has had his plea deal rejected by  a federal judge. He faces charges stemming from nine individual allegations of drugging and sexually assaulting women in four different states. Sharper pled guilty or no contest last year in all four state courts but now it’s alleged there may have been 16 victims. The judge said the 10-year sentence was too lenient.
