Pete Rose will make his first appearance on the FOX network today during three different times. He joins America’s Pregame for a segment during the 5 p.m. show and then the main event, a one hour edition of MLB Whiparound at 7 p.m. He’ll also appear in a taped segment that will also air on FOX Sports Live at 11:50 p.m.
Arguably the best ballplayer ever, MLB’s “Charlie Hustle” was an amazing player who holds more records than anyone else in the recorded history of the league. His stats are legendary – 4,256 hits; 3,562 games played; 14,053 at bats; and 10,328 outs. Additionally, he’s the only player in MLB history to play more than 500 games at five different positions.
Then, of course, there is that betting scandal that banned him for life from the game he loves and so far, has kept him out of the Hall of Fame, a saga that continues with the new commissioner, Rob Manfred.
But what has impressed FOX network officials, according to John Entz, executive producer of FOX Sports, is not only his in-depth knowledge of the game and the guys playing in the ‘60s through the ‘80s, it was also that he continues to follow the game today and knows all the changes and the current players.
Entz also called Rose a great story teller. And Rose already has broadcast experience, spending around eight years hosting a nationally syndicated radio show where he talked sports and also did interviews.
Rose will also appear on MLB Whiparound on Tuesday and Wednesday.
