Missing Ohio State defensive tackle’s body found

The search for Kosta Karageorge, the Ohio State defensive tackle and former Buckeye wrestler ended yesterday in the worst possible outcome. Columbus police confirmed that his body was found dead in a dumpster near campus of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The 6-foot 5, 285-pound defensive tackle was just 22 years old.

His mother had told authorities that Karageorge has had concussions in the past and spells of confusion. In fact, his last text to his mother said “I am sorry if I am an embarrassment, but these concussions have my head all f–ked up.”

While Ohio State’s team physician, Dr. Jim Borchers isn’t permitted to comment on any care given student-athletes due to HIPAA regulations that ensure the confidentiality of personal health information, he said that they are confident in the university’s medical policies and procedures to return athletes to competition following injury or illness.

Until an official police report is released later this week, though, reasons for his death are just conjecture.
