Friday Weekly Replay for June 28 – July 3

While much of the news this past week has been directly about #LOVEWINS, otherwise known as the Supreme Court ruling that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 of our United States, there are some other things you may have missed. And on July 4th, the 50th Anniversary celebration of the LGBT Pride movement takes place in Philadelphia. It’s a great time to celebrate equality in all its forms!

 

 

NFL’s Josh Robinson’s homophobic Twitter rants

Following the SCOTUS ruling in favor of marriage equality last Friday, Minnesota Vikings cornerback Josh Robinson took to Twitter to compare same-sex marriage to pedophilia and incest, according to Sports Illustrated. Now it’s up to the Vikings to respond after the team already had to have an investigation of homophobia after firing straight ally Chris Kluwe. Michael Sam returns to CFL with engagement break-up rumors

Michael Sam has returned to the Montreal Alouettes offering no specifics on his absence due to “personal reasons” that have “been worked out.” However TMZ points out Michael has not been photographed with his fiancé Vito Cammisano for the last two months. And Vito is appearing in his new personal Vlog sans the engagement ring he received from the openly gay player six months ago.

Misty Copeland becomes first black principal dancer for ABT

Misty Copeland has become the most famous current ballerina in the United States. She’s made the cover of Time magazine, been profiled by “60 Minutes,” has a biography detailing her ability to overcome challenges and has grown into a social media sensation for dancing ballet’s biggest roles on some of its grandest stages. But another role eluded her: She was still not a principal dancer … that’s until Tuesday when she was the first African-American woman to be named a principal dancer in the 75-year history of the American Ballet Theater.

Skylar Diggins, guard for WNBA’s Tulsa Shock out for season after injury

The Tulsa Shock’s Skylar Diggins’ season is finished after she tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) after Sunday’s game against the Seattle Storm. She faces reconstructive surgery and will spend the time off supporting her team which is currently 8-2 and in first place in the Western Conference. No word yet on whether or not it will keep her from participating in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
