WNBA All-Stars Britney Griner of the Phoenix Mercury and Glory Johnson of the Tulsa Shock married Friday evening in a mountain-top setting in Phoenix. In front of 75 guests, the couple’s wedding took place at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort.
According to People magazine, Johnson wore a full-length, strapless gown with a small train, one she chose from Bridals by Lori in Atlanta on an episode of TLC’s program, “Say Yes to the Dress.” Griner wore an off-white suit. A sit-down dinner followed the ceremony and the tiered wedding cake combined white cake (Griner’s favorite) and red velvet cake (Johnson’s favorite).
Griner posted this on her Instagram account: “I don’t care if the world was ending at this moment! Nothing could of kept me from my wife ❤ I think I cried the whole day until I saw her walking down that isle. Then in a instant I was calm and full of love and all the tears turned into huge smiles and a joy that no one can explain unless you have found and married your soulmate I love you so much my beautiful Wife @missvol25”
The wedding took place in spite of a domestic violence incident just weeks ago where both were arrested after an argument turned physical. Engaged last April, the couple had just bought a home in Goodyear, located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Griner is entering domestic violence counseling as part of a plea deal, and once finished, charges against her will be dismissed.
But Griner has said that “This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously. I am committed to making positive changes and I plan to use what I have learned to set a good example and help make a difference in the world around me.”
