Blake Skjellerup isn’t going to Russia

Remember–we’re counting down to December 14th, when I’ll be posting my final 2013 contribution to this website. Then we’ll be taking a break to return in 2014 with a new and improved Compete website. I’m excited. Are you? Meanwhile–

I regret having to report Kiwi Olympian Blake Skjellerup will not be going to the 2014 Olympics in Russia. He’s not boycotting–he failed to qualify. According to my friends at TheBackLot:

Sadly, Blake Skjellerup did not qualify for the Sochi Games. He ranked 33rd in the world, one slot out of making the games. But he is first alternate for the 500 meter. As of now there are no out male athletes participating in the games.
