A Diverse Race

Montgomery County in Maryland has seen a historic race come to an end, and they have retained their incumbent Senator Richard Madaleno, who won out over Dana Beyer, a retired opthalmic surgeon and transgender person.

In what is surely the first time (known to us, anyway) that voters had to choose between a gay man and a transgender woman, Madaleno remained in his seat for another four years.

Both of the candidates congratulated each other on Facebook, and Madaleno thanked especially his husband who has supported him throughout his political career.
